Aloha, travelers. We’ve got some exciting news for all you craft food and drink lovers out there – a brand new tour!
With a direct focus on the most prestigious, innovative and delicious food & beverage crafters of Maui’s gorgeous Upcountry region, our all new Taste of Upcountry Tour is also our most budget-friendly option and an excellent choice for couples, families, wedding groups, friends and even corporate groups.
Maui Craft Tours: Taste of Upcountry
Available for guests 16+ with optional alcohol tastings for 21+, you’ll have the opportunity see (and taste!) more of what makes Maui a world class destination full of unique flavors, from your morning coffee to happy hour cocktails and everything in between.
Known as the areas of Haleakala Volcano furthest away from the ocean, ‘Upcountry’ includes a series of rural towns which primarily focus on agriculture as a way of life. From Pukalani to Makawao and Kula, visitors who take the time to explore this lush region of Maui will be treated to blossoming Jacaranda trees, panoramic ocean views, forest reserves with fragrant Eucalyptus trees, boutique art galleries and shops, farmers markets, and green rolling hills, all situated just near the cloud line and replete with an assortment of stunning tropical plants and flowers.
While it may not be the golden sand beaches or jungle landscape you’d automatically associate with Maui, Upcountry is truly the ‘authentic’ side of paradise, and one we recommend for those lucky enough to visit.
On our Taste of Upcountry tour, guests will enjoy behind-the-scenes tours at three of Maui’s most prestigious Upcountry food and beverage crafters – MauiWine, Surfing Goat Dairy and Hali’imaile Distilling Company.
Meet Up – Maui Tropical Plantation
The tour begins with a morning meet-up at the centrally-located Maui Tropical Plantation, where you’ll sample locally-grown coffee from the Mill House Roasting Co., who freshly roast all of their blends onsite with 100% Maui beans. Grab a homemade pastry for a morning snack and get ready for an adventure!
First Stop – Surfing Goat Dairy
Hop aboard our comfy Maui Craft Tours van and take in the views on the quick drive to Upcountry, where you’ll make your first stop at the 42-acre Surfing Goat Dairy, a craft farm producing award-winning gourmet goat cheeses. Feed the goats and learn more during a private tour of the farm before sampling their flagship cheese varieties alongside a gourmet farm-to-table lunch. YUM.
Next – MauiWine
Continuing with a drive further into Upcountry through Kula’s scenic countryside, you will then arrive at MauiWine for a tour and tasting in the historic King’s Cottage, which was originally built for visits from King Kalakaua, the last reigning King of Hawaii. Take in the views and browse locally-made items in the gift shop and Ulupalakua Ranch Store, located just across the street.
Next – Kula Country Farms
Reboard our Maui Craft Tours van for a quick trip to the Kula Country Farms produce stand, which offers an assortment of locally-grown fruits, veggies, jams and jellies, flowers, and freshly baked snack items, all in a breathtaking setting. Try the sweet island strawberries, or grab favorites like the Kula onions or sweet Kula corn!
Next – Hali’imaile Distilling Company
Located in the sugarcane fields on the slopes of Haleakala Volcano, you’ll then enjoy an expert tour of the production facility at Hali’imaile Distilling Company, followed by a special tasting of their premium spirits such as Pau Maui Vodka, Sammy’s Beach Bar Rum, Paniolo Whiskey and Maui Moon Vodka.
Final Stop – The Mill House
Lastly, we will return to Maui Tropical Plantation, where you’re invited to sit back, relax, and enjoy the view of the West Maui Mountains and sparkling pond while savoring craft cocktails and innovative, farm fresh cuisine at The Mill House Restaurant. Headed by award-winning Chef Jeff Scheer, you’re in for a real treat at this local foodie must.
